Brian Ruiz | Bass

I was Born and Bred in Adelaide South Australia and i am quite proud to call Adelaide my home!
I have very strong memories of getting up and singing with my dad who used to play guitar and sing at various restaurants around adelaide, when i was only 6 years old. I even remember some patrons giving me coins! But when i won the young composer’s award when i was 17, i knew i wanted to be a Muso

INSPIRATION
my Dad and also my Mum gave me great encouragement, but my Uncle Kelly who taught me to play the guitar really helped me understand music and was a true inspiration to me. His own musical talents totally amazed me. I remember watchin him switching from guitar, to piano to flute in the ONE SOLO!!

WHY BASS
When i was in High school everyone was a guitarist so i decided to learn Bass. Eventually my first band at school i was bass player as well as the lead singer. I then picked up the bass again when i joined the band Kaha.

TOURING
I love touring. It’s an incredible opportunity to see the world and get a chance to meet and see some incredible musicians in action. I am a happy man on the road – like to keep my bandmates smiling. I have fond memories of Singapore…

HIGHLIGHTS SO FAR
Winning the Young Composers Award at 17 definitely a highlight, Playing my very first Solo gig (ironically enough supporting Fruit at the Office!!) and Living with Jimmy Barnes and his Family in 2000 and just being amongst some amazing musos

SCARY GIG
My first gig with the band Chill which i joined in Sydney. In the crowd was Jimmy Barnes, Jon Stevens (Boom Crash Opera), Michael Gudinski (founder of Mushroom Records) and a couple of the members from the band INXS. Tough crowd i tell you!!

if i wasn't a musician I would be owning my own bar or i would be a Chef. I love to cook!!

When i'm seventy I’d like to be an accomplished and well respected musician especially amongst my peers. Impression wise, if one kid was to sit in his room till the early hours of the mornin and learn something i have written just like i used to do when i was young, I would definitely be a happy man
